She’s Crafty – Motivational Monday

crochet devo

Yes, I borrowed a line from the Beastie Boys. Back in the day, I loved that song. Isn’t it amazing how you can read something over and over again and notice something different each time? The Bible does that to me every time. Depending on what I need, different insights jump out at me.

Before I began crocheting in earnest and writing these crochet devotionals, I never knew how crafty the Virtuous woman from Proverbs 31 was!

V13 She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands. (Wool making, crocheting, knitting)
V19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle. (Weaving)
V22 She makes tapestry for herself; (Needlepoint, cross stitch)
V24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies sashes for the merchants. (Sewing)

Incredible. She was a woman and many talents. Maybe the Virtuous Woman used her craftiness not only to “extend her hand to the poor,” but to keep her family “clothed with scarlet”, or maybe she also might have used her crafting to de-stress after a very active day. It’s possible; all of her crafts helped her to remain calm during her times of stress or prayer.

Scrapbooking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting are a few of the crafts I enjoy. I love to use my crafts for creating gifts for my friends and for those in need. Also, I love to see my family wearing or enjoying something I’ve made for them. Crafting has calmed and soothed me from hurts and stresses. I think most important of all, I love the way my crocheting has brought me closer to God.

What crafts do you indulge in and what role do you crafts play in your life?

It’s also Maybe Monday over on Designs By Hebrew Hands. I’ll be working on a Kufi and pushing through to finish my Michigan Blanket. What might be on your hooks this week?

Hi Michelle, I’m like ZaMarah, I have to stop by to get my morning devotions. I really like how you have weaved together your faith and your crochet. I don’t think I noticed how crafty that Proverbs 31 Gal was. She also bought land and started gardens and had strong arms. She definitely didn’t waste her time – she used it all to the Glory of God.

Okay, just typed a whole reply and deleted it. Ugh hate that.
Just stopping by for my Monday crochet devotions. I don’t think I noticed that about her – she really was a crafty gal. She also bought land, started a garden, and worked out because she had strong arms. Definitely someone to emulate.
